My first trip of the new year was to the West Coast Art and Frame Expo, held at the Paris and Bally hotels in Las Vegas. Once again, members of the Society of Gilders were invited to teach gilding, and we were generously given a booth on the trade show floor (if you scroll past some of the posts below, you can see pictures from last year’s visit). Rosemary Campbell, our Executive Secretary, and I manned the booth, as you can see – this was on our first day. I am wearing my Society of Gilders apron, and Rosemary has on the T-shirt.
The tondo frame on the stand is the work of Barrie Lynn Bryant, our Board member, and his wife. Both Barrie and Leah Fishman, another Board member, were teaching most of the time. After three days, Rosemary and I had invited almost one hundred visitors to try gilding a small piece of paper. We added a few new members, and received a lot of appreciative comments.
I did have a chance to visit the rest of the trade show floor, and even ordered some new tools! This year I did not teach or take any classes, but there were many excellent ones. – Jan 28, 2018
