This one is all in blue, and has multiple layers of quilling paper – both 1/8″ and 1/16″.  There are also elements edged with 23K gold leaf.  At the base of the hamsa, it has the Hebrew word “Mazel”, which means “luck”.  The side view shows the dimensionality of this piece.

The hamsa is surrounded by an oval mat covered with marbleized paper, and a lovely deep blue frame.  The final size is about 11″ x 13″.

]]> Hide Us https://lipskyart.com/product/hide-us/ Wed, 04 Jan 2017 01:54:14 +0000 https://lipskyart.com/?post_type=product&p=3523 This piece is based on the verse “Hide us in the shadow of your wings” from the “Hashkiveinu” prayer.  It is darker than my usual work.  I first began it after 9/11, and then it went through several revisions over many years. Now I am satisfied.  The wings are quilled with 23k gilt edging; the outer levels are made of covered fomeboard with multiple layers of paper, paint and varnish. The lettering shows the verse in Hebrew and English, written with genuine gold (“shell gold”).  The globe is acrylic paint. The framed work is about 18″ x 18″.
