This piece is based on the verse “Hide us in the shadow of your wings” from the “Hashkiveinu” prayer. It is darker than my usual work. I first began it after 9/11, and then it went through several revisions over many years. Now I am satisfied. The wings are quilled with 23k gilt edging; the outer levels are made of covered fomeboard with multiple layers of paper, paint and varnish. The lettering shows the verse in Hebrew and English, written with genuine gold (“shell gold”). The globe is acrylic paint. The whole work is about 16″ x 16″, not including the frame.
The price is $300 but it is not for sale at the moment – it will be in an exhibit at the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art in Tulsa, OK, from July 7 – September 17, 2017. It may be purchased from the Museum during that time, or from me afterwards.
